Where to Buy and How to Store Compostable Coffee Pods

Where to Buy and How to Store Compostable Coffee Pods. You've decided to make the switch, now where do you find compostable pods you can trust? And once you get them, how should you store them to keep them fresh?

Here's what you need to know.

Where to Buy Compostable Coffee Pods

Before you buy, it's worth knowing that not all compostable coffee pods are the same. There are specific certifications and marks that tell you exactly what you're getting. OK Home Compost certified by TÜV Austria means the pod breaks down fully without needing industrial composting facilities or further composting based TUV Austria certification guidelines. 4-Star OK Biobased means over 80% of the material comes from renewable plant-based sources. EN 13432 covers industrial composting. You need to understand this so you can evaluate the price point,  the circularity claims and to be able to make informed decisions as a consumer.

Fzin Coffee is the only Irish-based company offering certified compostable coffee pods that are both OK Home Compost certified and 4-Star OK Biobased rated by TÜV Austria, meaning the pods are made from over 80% renewable plant-based materials and break down fully in your garden compost or home compost bin. This is our Aromatico range.

So, if you're looking to support an Irish business with certifications not vague sustainability claims, we're your people. 😊

Fzin's Aromatico compostable coffee pods — fully compatible with Nespresso Original Line machines — are available:

  • Online at fzin.ie(fast delivery, direct from us)

  • Musgrave Marketplace (for business and hospitality customers)

We also work directly with offices, hotels, and retailers offering sustainable capsule options to their teams and guests. If you'd like to stock Fzin Coffee products, we'd love to chat.

🛑 Beware of Green washing

Not all “eco” or “biodegradable” pods are fully compostable. Look for:

  • OK Home Compost (composts at home) or EN 13432 certification (composts in industrial facilities and is accepted in the food bin / organic bin in Ireland)

  • ✅ Be cautious of vague terms like “eco” if you look closely you will see they are aluminum, and some times reduced plastic.

  • ✅ Be cautious of confusing narratives. Any pods needing to be disposed of in the waste bin are likely to end up in landfill.

🌱 How to Store Compostable Coffee Pods

Here's how to keep them at their best:

  • Cool, dry place – avoid humidity

  • Away from direct heat – not beside your oven

  • No fridge needed – but no steamy kitchens either

Compostable doesn't mean fragile but it does mean respectful storage keeps the quality intact.

Remember:

Buy from trusted suppliers.
Store them smart.
Share your swap in social media and inspire others to make the switch
